Black Friday is notorious for deals, and to make sure you are making the most of your shopping holiday, you should have a plan before hitting the stores.

Money experts at NerdWallet suggest making a list and sticking to it, that way you can avoid impulse purchases.

They also recommend knowing the store’s layout ahead of time so you can get in and out in an efficient manner.

A third tip is to understand warranties ahead of time. Many stores will try to sell you an extended warranty at the register but depending on the credit card you use, you may not need it.

“Some credit card protections offer warranties for up to two years — like a Citi credit–you want to make sure you use that credit for that purchase.”

Also make sure you know the stores’ extended holiday hours and research item prices right up until you are ready to make a purchase.
