Cape Coral approves $80K to fill vacant police positions

Parents said city leaders should do whatever it takes to make sure they come home safe from school. Twenty-three officers moved to school resource officer positions this school year. Now, Cape Coral Police Department wants to get more recruits for the streets.

Cape Coral City Council approved $80,000 to put new recruits through police training academy with the goal of filling 23 vacancies.

CCPD Sgt. Allan Kolak told WINK news eight officers are finishing field training and will be active soon, while four more recruits are in the academy.
