Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office said a man stole items at a convenience store in Charlotte County. When CCSO caught up to the suspect, he punched a K9-unit dog. The suspect has not been apprehended by police.

According to CCSO, the suspect stole $7 in items from a 7-Eleven off the 3300 block of Tamiami Trail and then fled the scene Sunday.

CCSO caught up with the suspect. When the officers got ahold of him, the suspect punched one of their K9 dogs in the face. The suspect fled, again, jumping into a nearby body of water and swam away.

CCSO said they know who the suspect is, but they still need to find and arrest him.

7-Eleven isn’t pressing charges; however, since the suspect battered the dog, he is now facing a felony charge. CCSO said the dog is not injured.

Once arrested, the felony charge will be brought against the suspect.
