A bustling roundabout at Southeast 47th Terrace and Vincennes Street is finally functioning after months of road closures in Cape Coral’s entertainment district.

While residents waited out the closures to see the changes, there is still work left to do to meet their deadline.

The east is still completely shut down and that’s where you’ll find City Sub’s owner Mark Hendry.

“We’ve been shut down now for almost five months,” he said, “It completely stopped business. It has hurt financially.”

Streetscape says the City of Cape Coral is working hard to help businesses affected by the project that began in January.

“They’ve been focused on maintaining access to businesses as much as is possible with an infrastructure project such as this,” said Yvonne McClellan with the 47th Terrace Streetscape. “The city is making investments in improving the underground utility infrastructure in the project limits and that includes a new water main, a new sewer, a new irrigation.”

But Hendry says customers can’t get to their business as there are no sidewalks. Despite his frustration, Hendry says the project is making great progress.

“When you see the end result it’s going to be quite fascinating,” he said. “They’ve done a wonderful job.”

McClellan says that the project is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year and that they are on track to meet their deadline.
