School resource officers in Charlotte County are amping up their security and adding extra training before the school year starts. Many districts have been adding officers and training to their security efforts following the Parkland shooting. Charlotte County SROs are including teachers and staff in their training, making sure to ask the question, “what would you do?” “We’re doing a lot of training, we’re making sure the teachers have their training as well and will feel comfortable if unfortunately in the event that something were to happen,” said School Resource Officer Christy McGlashan. Year-round school starts Thursday in Charlotte County and the regular school year starts next month. WINK News reporter Nicole Lauren was live in Punta Gorda to review new school safety measures.
