A 20-year-old man accused of walking into a Circle K on Cleveland Avenue, brandishing his weapon and demanding money was arrested Wednesday. A person left the convenience store around 8:30 a.m. on the 3600 block of Cleveland Avenue and flagged down police to alert them a man had pointed a gun at a store clerk, according to police. Police made contact with the suspect, later identified as Derrick Lemarr Edwards, Jr. Police told him to stop. Although he refused, he was later detained and was found with a firearm in his pants pocket. The witness and store clerk gave statements and said Edwards pulled a gun and asked for money, police said. Edwards is facing charges of robbery with a firearm, resisting arrest and possession and carrying a concealed firearm that had an altered serial number, according to police. Edwards was taken to the Lee County jail following his arrest.
