Fort Myers man pleads no contest to 2014 killing

A 26-year-old man pleaded no contest to a manslaughter charge and was sentenced to 13 years in prison, according to the 20th Circuit of Florida.

Hector Tapia, of Fort Myers, was a suspect in the killing of 36-year-old Rene Garcia in Dec. 2014. Garcia’s body was found off Ortiz Avenue.

Tapia will serve his time in the Department of Corrections, according to the circuit’s tweet, followed by two years of probation.
