FORT MYERS, Fla. A 29-year-old man was given life in prison stemming from a rape conviction, the state attorney’s office said Wednesday.

Chunsi William Vines, of Cape Coral, raped a woman he met in August 2015, threatened her with weapons and threatened to drown her, investigators said. She was able to escape through a window while Vines was filling a bathtub with water.

Vines found his victim by responding to an advertisement placed on Backpage.com, a search engine for free classified ads, the state attorney’s office said. Vines had her meet him at a home for sale in Cape Coral, where the crimes took place.

He was convicted in October of sexual battery by threatening to use force or violence, kidnapping and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He received the life sentence on the kidnapping charge, 30 years for the sexual battery and five years for the aggravated assault.
