SACO, Maine A terminally ill boy who inspired an outpouring of early Christmas cards has died.

Jacob Thompson passed away Sunday after a four-year battle with neuroblastoma, his family announced on the Facebook page they’ve used to document his fight with the disease.

Jacob’s doctors said in early October he only had about a month to live, so he and his family decided to celebrate Christmas early. He asked for cards from anyone around the world who wanted to share his Christmas spirit.
