CAPE CORAL, Fla. A home was suffered “significant” damage in a fire Saturday afternoon on Southeast 21st Terrace, according to the Cape Coral Fire Department said.

Fire crews responded around 2:20 p.m. to the home on the 1000 block of 21st Terrace, Battalion Chief Kevin Haines said. The flames were extinguished in 10 minutes.

Homeowner Adam Clark said he left his home for approximately 20 minutes to go to Walmart with his son.

“By the time I got back from just up there–Walmart to here–5 minutes, it was pretty much all engulfed and the fire truck was just starting to spray water on it,” Clark said.

A firefighter was taken to the hospital for what officials believe to be heat exhaustion.

The circumstances leading up to the blaze and the severity of the home’s damage is unclear.

No one was home at the time of the fire, but the Clark’s will begin picking up the pieces.

“Just gotta keep putting one foot in front of the other and try to rebuild,” Clark said.
