FORT MYERS, Fla. The suspect in a deadly New York City truck rampage attended a 2015 wedding in Fort Myers where another guest was under scrutiny by the F.B.I.

Former Fort Myers resident Sayfullo Saipov, 29, was present at a wedding in August 2015 at the Osprey Cove Apartments, just north of Estero, according to an article from the New York Times.

A person at the wedding, who remains unidentified, was under surveillance as part of a terrorism investigation at that time, the New York Times reported.

The groom was Saipov’s brother-in-law and the bride was a Fort Myers woman from Uzbekistan, the New York Times reported. The two were married in a traditional Islamic ceremony.

Saipov, who told FBI interrogators that he was inspired by IS, is accused of driving a Home Depot rental truck through an unobstructed entry to a bike path in lower Manhattan and mowing down cyclists and pedestrians killing eight people and wounding a dozen more.

He faces charges of supporting terrorism and other federal counts.

Saipov used to live in the Gulfstream Isles Apartments off Summerlin Road and Boy Scout Drive. He also had an apartment on the 2700 block of Colonial Boulevard, records show.

Another former south Fort Myers resident, Mukhammadzoir Kadirov, was briefly wanted for questioning in connection with the attack.
