NAPLES, Fla. Erica Chery is using the power of makeup to transform and heal cancer patients in Southwest Florida.

Chery, owner of The Lovely Touch, decided to use her talent to help others feel pretty during their ugly battle with the disease after her sister was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer.

“I decided to reach out to two facilities here in Naples, and I asked them to kind of give me patients to do a makeover for,” Chery said.

Naples breast surgeon Elizabeth Arguelles was happy to connect Chery with some patients to makeover.

“A lot of women are absolutely devastated that they’re going to be losing their hair.
So to be able to do something where a women feels beautiful again is so important to them,” Arguelles said.

Chery soon met with patients Rhena Ruiz and Anacillia Tira who got the makeover done right after going through chemotherapy.

“Thank you! I don’t know how to express my gratitude, but I don’t want to cry, so i’m just gonna say thanks,” Ruiz said.

Chery hopes her makeovers will expand to include community partners and wigs for cancer patients.

“It’s just so rewarding to see them, when they’re done and that glow and radiance like ‘I’m me, and I’m beautiful even though I have cancer,'” she said.
