Interviews begin for Punta Gorda police chief, see their resumes

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. Two candidates have dropped out of the running to become the next police chief in Punta Gorda, City Manager Howard Kunik said.

Interviews take place Thursday and Friday for the eight still in the running to replace ex-Chief Tom Lewis, who was fired in August for his role in the deadly 2016 citizens academy shooting. The interviews are closed to the public.

Jeffrey Hadley, public safety chief in Kalamazoo Michigan, and David Sklarek, former chief deputy for the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office near Orlando, withdrew from consideration within the past couple of days, Kunik said.
