Fort Myers woman, 29, identified as hit-and-run victim

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. A 29-year-old woman was identified Tuesday as the victim of a weekend hit-and-run collision.

The body of Fort Myers resident Akeera Shanks was discovered face-down around noon Sunday near 40th Street SW and Rena Avenue S., Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers said. Investigators believe she was hit by a car late Saturday or early Sunday.

The vehicle involved is likely to have sustained front-end damage, Crime Stoppers said. The driver remains at large.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477). All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
