Child injured after bull runs loose in Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBS New York) A child suffered minor injuries after a bull got loose Tuesday in Brooklyn.

The bull got loose before noon from a slaughterhouse near 16th Street and Fourth Avenue in Sunset Park, authorities said.

During its run it apparently hurt a young child, who was taken to Maimonides Hospital with minor injuries.

The bull ran to the parade ground in Prospect Park, where crowds gathered to take a closer look.

“I’ve been living here almost 40 years, never seen one. Raccoons, yes; cows, no,” one resident said.

“I think it was the most crazy thing that I’ve ever heard of, I mean a bull running around on a soccer field is pretty crazy,” said another resident.

“When a farm animal, like the bull found today in Prospect Park, is found loose in New York City, what you are witnessing is an individual who was so determined to live that they summoned every ounce of courage they could muster to make a dash for freedom,” Farm Sanctuary, America’s leading farm animal protection organization, said in a statement.

“It was a valiant effort,” one woman said.

The bull was taken to an animal shelter in East New York.
