Lehigh Acres man sentenced to life for killing mom, brother

FORT MYERS, Fla. A Lehigh Acres man accused of killing his mother and his brother in 2013 was sentenced Friday to life in prison.

Steven Tompkins, 27, of the 1900 block of Jefferson Avenue, entered a no-contest plea to two counts of first-degree murder, carjacking with a firearm and robbery with a firearm, according to Florida’s 20th Judicial Circuit Court.

Prosecutors earlier sought the death penalty.

Tompkins used a hammer to beat his mother to death and shot his brother, according to investigators. He ran away and picked up his online girlfriend in South Carolina, according to investigators.

The girlfriend, Joycelin Luck, was charged with helping him flee.
