Company finds mold all over Punta Gorda woman’s apartment after Irma

Punta Gorda, Fla. – Mold is showing up in homes across Southwest Florida after Hurricane Irma.

It covers the walls of Christie Spadacinni’s home at Seven Palms Apartments on 1200 Slash Pine Circle.

On Wednesday she spoke to WINK News after concerns of her health returning to a moldy home.

Spadicinni says she refuses to bring her children into the home and even her doctor recommended she not go home “I was directed to stay out of it until construction is done.”

Management at the apartment complex told the mother of three the problem was taken care of and safe to live in, but Spadacinni believes otherwise.

A mold remediation company saw our story and wanted to help. Mark Murphy with Mold Expert took multiple samples to send to a lab for testing.

“(There’s) visible mold on the drywall, obviously in the room where I swabbed –That’s the only time we swab when we can see something. And the odor in the air, which is the reason for the air samples” Murphy said.

Now Spadacinni hopes to get to the bottom of the mess. “I really hope that we can get behind what’s behind those walls and find out what exactly is hidden.”
