Fort Myers resumes pickup of bulk items, junk

Published:

FORT MYERS, Fla. Collection of bulk items and junk will resume in the city starting Thursday.

Customers will be served on their regularly scheduled day from Oct. 5-10, with Oct. 11 scheduled as a make-up day for bulk item pickup, city spokeswoman Kirsten O’Donnell said.

Collection was paused because of Hurricane Irma. It may be paused again — after Oct. 10, city officials will evaluate whether to continue collecting bulk items weekly or to reduce the schedule again in order to focus on horticultural storm debris, O’Donnell said.

More than 110,000 cubic yards of storm debris has already been collected in the city, according to O’Donnell.

Residents are reminded to keep bulk items and junk separate from yard waste, trash and recycling. All items should be placed as close to the curb as possible without blocking traffic or visibility.
