Trash collection delayed in Cape Coral

CAPE CORAL, Fla. It’s not just debris lining the roads of Cape Coral.

Trash pickup was scheduled to resume just days after Hurricane Irma, but bins are overflowing with foul-smelling garbage.

Some nearby residents thought Waste Pro forgot about trash collection on their street.

“I was concerned, I said to my daughter, ‘Maybe somebody should call the city,'” Cape Coral resident Don Hoffman said.

But Hoffman wasn’t alone.

Others nearby residents like Eneida Castillo believe this is more of a health concern.

“That garbage sitting there, the smell is very bad. It brings mosquitoes, animals,” Castillo said.

The storm created more trash than what waste collectors are used to gathering, causing a delay in pickups, said Keith Banasiak, Southwest Florida Waste Pro Regional Vice President.
