Groups collecting shoes for kids who lost theirs to Irma

NORTH NAPLES, Fla. It’s a post-Irma need that’s easy to overlook.

Shoes were among the many items lost when homes were damaged or destroyed in the storm. Two North Naples groups are teaming to collect pairs for children at a Thursday night football game.

The Barron Collier High School National Honor Society will take donated shoes — and socks — of any size at the football stadium on campus at 5600 Cougar Drive in North Naples. They’ll be set up at the gates for the team’s game against Collier County rival Golden Gate at 7 p.m. Thursday.

A particular need exists for boys and men’s shoes, according to organizers.

Donated items will go to the Laces of Love organization, which will distribute them to those in need. Laces of Love has already given out more than 2,000 pairs of shoes to outreach centers.

“Everybody coming together as a community, just that alone, is great — and then giving other people something that they might not be able to get is amazing,” Barron Collier player Tyler Mansfield said.

Shoes may also be sent to the following address:
