NORTH NAPLES, Fla. An improper lane change led to a crash that snarled I-75 traffic for hours Tuesday evening, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Timber and tree branches spilled onto the highway from one of the three vehicles involved, the FHP said. Two southbound lanes and one northbound lane were blocked after the crash happened at around 5:49 p.m., creating rush-hour gridlock.

Pamela Lazarto, 37, of Naples, was cited after improperly merging from the outside lane to the center lane in front of a truck that collided with the Ford Fusion she was driving, according to the FHP. The truck rolled over and hit a Kia Soul.

All three vehicles were southbound, the FHP said.

A passenger in Lazarto’s car, 48-year-old Tony Lindsey of Naples, was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital with serious injuries, according to the FHP. Six others involved in the crash received minor injuries.
