American flag stolen from Fort Myers neighborhood

FORT MYERS, Fla. A suspect stole an American flag early Tuesday morning on Kelly Greens Boulevard, according to Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers.

The robbery happened at around 1:41 a.m. on the 12300 Kelly Greens Boulevard, crime stoppers said.

The unidentified suspect attached a knife to a stick to cut the rope that held a massive $800 flag from the pole, crime stoppers said. The suspect hoisted down the flag and fled on foot.

Surveillance video showed the same man returning later with a flashlight, crime stoppers said. A resident later found the knife and stick used to cut down the flag.

Anyone with information should call Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477). All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
