FORT MYERS, Fla. Power is still out to 480 Florida Power and Light customers in Southwest Florida.

But the company says power has been restored to “essentially all of its 4.4 million customers.”

FPL CEO Eric Silagy called it “the fastest restoration of the largest amount of people by any one utility in U.S. history.”

“I cannot thank our customers enough for their patience, support and understanding, particularly those who were without power the longest,” Silagy said in a statement.

FPL is releasing the majority of its utility and contract workers who responded from across the country and Canada.

The utility has estimated since last week that power would be restored to all but an isolated few by the end of Friday.

FPL is providing county-by-county data on its website, where it reported 480 Southwest Florida customers without power as of 7 p.m.:

  • Charlotte County: 0 (0 percent of customers)
  • Collier County: 190 (less than 1 percent of customers)
  • DeSoto County: 0 (0 percent of customers)
  • Glades County: 40 (2 percent of customers)
  • Hendry County: 0 ( 0 percent of customers)
  • Highlands County: 0 (0 percent of customers)
  • Lee County: 250 (less than 1 percent of customers)

There were 4,189 electric cooperative customer outages at noon Friday in Collier County, 2,892 in Lee and 412 in Hendry, according to Florida State Emergency Response Team data.
