Help for pets affected by Irma available in Lehigh Acres

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. People in Southwest Florida weren’t the only ones affected by Hurricane Irma.

Many pets are also in need after the storm. But several groups are offering help Friday.

Free pet food is available at a mobile pet pantry is open from 9 a.m. to noon at Veterans Community Park on 55 Homestead Road S. in Lehigh Acres. A veterinarian will be onsite to provide basic vet care and address questions and concerns, Lee County spokeswoman Betsy Clayton said.

Lee County Domestic Animal Services is organizing the event sponsored by the ASPCA, Bailey’s Way Rescue and Senior Paws Sanctuary.
