PUNTA GORDA, Fla. Bayfront Health Punta Gorda hospital has been given clearance to reopen.

The Florida Agency for Health Care Administration gave the facility the OK to begin inpatient admissions at noon Friday, spokeswoman Bevin Gallo said in a press release. The hospital had been closed since sustaining damage in Hurricane Irma, though its emergency room opened Sept. 14.

Appointments for elective surgeries, outpatient laboratory and imaging services at Bayfront Health Punta Gorda will resume Monday, Sept. 25, Gallo said.

Patients were sent to Bayfront Health Port Charlotte during the closure.

Repairs continue at Bayfront Health Punta Gorda’s Rehab and Wellness Center. Outpatient therapy appointments are continuing at Bayfront Health Port Charlotte’s Wellness and Rehab Center until the Wellness Center in Punta Gorda reopens, Gallo said.

The company is hopeful that happens by month’s end.
