Tropical Storm Jose maintains winds, strength

FORT MYERS, Fla. Hurricane Jose weakened into a tropical storm Wednesday morning, the National Hurricane Center said.

Tropical Storm Jose has maximum sustained winds at 65 mph and is moving northeast at 8 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center. The storm is about 165 miles south of Nantucket, Massachusetts.

The Tropical Storm Watch previously issued for along the coast of Long Island, New York –Fire Island Inlet to Port Jefferson– has been discontinued, the National Hurricane Center said.

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, Block island, and Rhode Island, according to the National Hurricane Center said. The warning also goes from Woods Hole to Sagamore Beach, including Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

“Jose continues to produce dangerous surf and rip currents along a large portion of the U.S. East Coast,” the National Weather Center said.
