FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. Two missing boaters from Cape Coral were rescued early Monday after their boat capsized 37 miles west of St. James City, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

Renier Denis, 37 and Osmiel Vasquez, 35, were reported missing Sunday night when Denis’ wife told Coast Guard watchstanders they didn’t come back by dark, as expected.

A Coast Guard air crew spotted a flare within the search area at 4:40 a.m. and located the two men on top of the hull of their capsized boat, the Coast Guard said.

The size of the boat is unclear. The Coast Guard variously referred to it in a press release as 23 feet and 25 feet.
