The twister was classified as a landspout tornado, according to WINK meteorologist Matt Devitt. It touched down around 9:22 a.m. “They still are tornadoes, but there are a few characteristics of a landspout that differentiate it from twisters that are are spawned by thunderstorms,” Devitt said. In order for a landspout to form, it needs a cumulus cloud near the surface of converging winds, according to The Weather Channel. A landspout is similar to a waterspout.
