I-75 to remain open as Santa Fe River flood threat dissipates

GAINESVILLE, Fla. Interstate 75 will remain open at a bridge over the swollen Santa Fe River, the Florida Department of Transportation said.

That’s good news for Hurricane Irma evacuees returning to Southwest Florida. FDOT considering shutting down the bridge just north of Gainesville if the river reached an unsafe level.

But the river has receded, and FDOT engineers and state meteorologists no longer believe it poses a threat.

Still, U.S. 27 and U.S. 41 remain closed at the points where they cross the river.
