NAPLES, Fla. Residents are encouraged to use caution when hiring contractors to repair damage on their homes following Hurricane Irma, Collier County officials said.

Before hiring a contractor, residents should contact Collier County Contractor Licensing at 239-252-2431 to verify the company’s credentials, county officials said.

Emergency repair work including enclosing doors, windows and roofs does not require a permit at this time, county officials said. All other repair work does require a permit.

Unlicensed workers who perform services during a state of emergency are committing a third-degree felony, county officials said.

Emergency permitting will be available at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the following locations:

  • Naples Permitting Office on 2800 N. Horseshoe Drive, Naples
  • Immokalee Permitting Office on 310 Alachua St., Immokalee
