Irma weakens to Tropical Depression

FORT MYERS, Fla. Irma slowly weakened to Tropical Depression Monday night while moving over southwestern Georgia.

It had maximum sustained winds of 35 mph as it moved northwest at 15 mph about 5 miles south of Columbus, Georgia, the National Hurricane Center said in its 11 p.m. advisory.

Storm surge warnings were discontinued Monday for all of Southwest Florida as water began to recede.
