FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. Bridges are being deemed safe after Hurricane Irma passes.

The Sanibel Causeway and Big Carlos Pass Bridge connecting Fort Myers Beach and Bonita Beach have passed Lee County Department of Transportation inspection, Lee County spokesman Tim Engstrom said.

The Big Hickory Pass Bridge in the Bonita Beach area has also been cleared by the DOT, spokeswoman Betsy Clayton said.

Earlier, the Matlacha Pass Bridge to Pine Island was reopened.

Sanibel remains unsafe because of downed trees and power lines, and only first responders are being allowed on the island, the city manager’s office said.
