Time limited to join senior hunger program in Hendry, Glades counties

Published: Updated:

LABELLE, Fla. Time is running out for seniors in Hendry and Glades counties to sign up for a state program that helps put groceries in their refrigerators.

In order for residents in both counties to continue benefiting from the commodity supplemental food program past July 1, the effort must have 300 new clients in Glades County and more than 800 new clients in Hendry County.

If not, then the funds will go to other areas in the state.

“The group of seniors who benefit from this program is a group of seniors that, without our help, they would not be able to keep their nutrition,” said Samira Beckwith, president and CEO of Hope Healthcare Services.

To sign up, residents must live in Hendry or Glades counties, be 60 or older and have a gross income at or below 130 percent of the federal poverty guidelines.

Residents will need:

  • A photo ID (for example – driver’s license, state-issued ID, passport)
