BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. A former Bonita Springs bank teller was sentenced to six years in prison Monday after pleading no contest to stealing more than $200,000 from an elderly couple.

Altagracia Ortuno, 33, of Lehigh Acres, also received 20 years of probation and will be forced to pay $209,000 in restitution, the state attorney’s office said.

She was accused of using the couple’s personal information to create fraudulent deposit slips and illegally withdraw the money from their account at the BMO-Harris Bank on 9000 Bonita Beach Rd SE.

Ortuno used the money, withdrawn over a period of 15 months, on purchases including plastic surgery, football tickets, a pickup truck, and thousands of dollars’ worth of music from iTunes.

The couple noticed a withdrawal was made from the bank when they were out of town, tipping them off to the crime, the state attorney’s office said.

Ortuno left the bank, citing personal reasons, and was later terminated, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement said.

Her charges were officially listed as grand theft over $100,000 and criminal use of personal identification information ($50,000 or more).
