Large brush fire closes I-75 overnight near North Port

NORTH PORT, Fla. A large brush fire shut down I-75 in both directions overnight Saturday between Kings Highway and Toledo Blade Boulevard.

“It’s a very vengeful fire because it’s eating everything in its path completely,” said Patrick Mahoney with the Florida Fire Service. “It has totally burned everything in its path to nothing.”

The wind-driven blaze, which started at about 1 p.m., was 3,200 acres and 30 percent contained as of Saturday evening.
