U.S. 27 reopens following deadly Hendry County crash

CLEWISTON, Fla. The nortbound and southbound lanes of U.S. 27 reopened Friday morning following a deadly crash, the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office said.

U.S. 27 was closed for several hours just west of County Road 720, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The rear end collision between two semi-trucks happened just after 6:15 a.m. on 2713 West U.S. 27 near the intersection of Charlie Miner Memorial Highway and County Road 720, State troopers said.

One semi-truck was carrying trash, according to State troopers. The driver of the other semi-truck was killed, and the trash caught on fire following the wreck, according to State troopers.

The driver of the semi-truck carrying trash did not require medical attention.
