Fort Myers family donates $180K to nonprofits in memory of their daughter

FORT MYERS, Fla. Greg and Lorraine Gutheim are donating nearly $180,000 to local nonprofits in honor of their daughter.

Jordan Gutheim, 20, was riding in a car with her boyfriend in May 2016 when a tow truck rear ended them, then sent their vehicle into oncoming traffic.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

“The Florida Highway Patrol showed up at our door and he asked ‘Are you Jordan Gutheim’s father?’ And I knew right away,” Greg Gutheim said.

Some of the donations have gone to the Gulf Coast Humane Society and the Doctor Ella Piper Center Grandparents Program. They plan to surprise a senior at their daughter’s high school with a college scholarship.

“The best way to honor Jordan and her memory is to keep alive the things that she was passionate about,” Lorraine Gutheim said.
