A brush fire threatened a structure Monday afternoon near Horseshoe Road, Charlotte County Fire/EMS spokeswoman Dee Hawkins-Garland said. Firefighters were able to secure the structure, Hawkins-Garland said. No structures were under any threat as of shortly after 4 p.m., Florida Forest Service spokesman Patrick Mahoney said. The blaze near encompasses an estimated 3 acres near Horseshoe Road and State Road 31, Hawkins-Garland said. Drivers are urged to avoid the area. The fire was 90 percent contained by shortly before 5 p.m., Hawkins-Garland said. The Octagon Wildlife Sanctuary is nearby. Officials there are keeping a watchful eye but don’t plan to evacuate, they said.
