City council pushes to make Punta Gorda road safer

Published:

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. The plan to turn a portion of West Retta Esplanade from Harvey to Shreeve streets into a one-way road hit a roadblock Wednesday.

City Council rejected the proposal to convert the two-way road, which is the main thruway to Gilchrist Park.

Instead, council members decided to continue with the Harbor Walk Project, which would include a wider sidewalk, angled street parking, crosswalks and paving the road with bricks as alternative traffic calming measures.

Once the project is complete, council members will see if any more needs to be done.
