(KHON / MGN) PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. Raw sewage spilled Monday near the entrance of an apartment complex has been cleaned up, the Charlotte County Utilities Department said. A broken force main spilled 2,500 gallons of raw sewage into a storm drain at 1515 Forrest Nelson Blvd. About 1,000 gallons of the sewage was placed into a tanker truck, the department said. The remaining wastewater was absorbed in a dry retention area, and the affected areas were sanitized with hydrated lime, the department said. The force main was repaired. No direct waterways were impacted, the department said, and no surface water or drinking water was compromised, according to the Florida Division of Emergency Management.
