Bonita man loses thousands in Fyre Festival debacle

NAPLES, Fla. What was supposed to be the festival of a lifetime turned out to be anything but.

Hosted by rapper Ja Rule, the Fyre Festival was packaged to be a once in a lifetime luxury experience in the Bahamas, promising villas for VIP festival-goers and performances by artists like Blink 182.

However, fans like Kyle Kissane were instead greeted by tents and empty stages.

“Literally you could waltz right in and out of people’s stuff,” he said.

Event organizers also advised fans to not bring cash. Instead, they charged them $750 each for wristbands to be used as a credit card for the festival.

The total costs for Kissane and the other 23 people in his group ended up being around $25,000.

Although Kissane feels cheated, he didn’t believe like the festival was a complete failure. Some accommodations were met, such as alcohol and a comfortable mattress.

“They were prepared, but they had no execution,” he said.

Kissane is disputing the wristband charge, but said he was willing to give the festival a second chance if there is another one next year.

The organizers are currently facing a $100 million lawsuit for the debacle.
