MARCO ISLAND, Fla. The entire island was placed under a precautionary boil water notice Monday.

Crews will test the water for bacteria at 40 different locations, the city said. The notice will be will lifted once two consecutive days of clean tests show up.

A morning power outage caused water distribution pressure to drop below 20 pounds per square inch, the city said. Anytime that happens, a boil water notice is required under Florida Department of Environmental Protection law.

The city didn’t list specific instructions for residents. When a precautionary boil water notice was posted last week for 15 North Naples neighborhoods, Collier County recommended a rolling boiling of one minute for all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth or washing dishes.
