Elderly man dies following Cape Coral crash

CAPE CORAL, Fla. An 81-year-old man who was involved in a February crash has died, the Cape Coral Police Department said.

The wreck happened on Pine Island Road near Hibiscus Drive on February 4, police said.

Thomas Hierspiel, 81, of Cape Coral was trauma-alerted to a local hospital for treatment and passed away on April 20, police said.

Hierspiel was driving a Kia Soul when he turned in front of a Kia Sedona minivan driven by Linda Diane Long, 55, violating the right of way.

Long suffered minor injuries in the crash, police said.
