Veterans angered by Naples Military Museum thefts

NAPLES, Fla. Medals of honor, books and artwork are some of the donated memorabilia that never made it to a display case at a military museum housed in the Naples Municipal Airport.

Thefts have been going on for years by someone with security clearance, Museum of Military Memorabilia president Bob McDonald said.

“It’s historical — it’s somebody’s father, brother, mother, sister,” McDonald said. “It’s something they entrusted to us, and it’s gone.”

McDonald discovered the items were missing when families came into the museum looking for the memorabilia they’d donated.

“The (veterans) gave their whole youth, and to steal that, I can’t conceive of it,” veteran Harold Leavitt said.
