PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. How Dr. Agustin Collado lived, was in a way, how he died.

Collado, who co-founded Fawcett Memorial Hospital, was walking across the street to The Virginia B. Andes Community Clinic on April 20 to help a patient when he was hit by a vehicle.

Collado died a week later.

Those at the clinic remembered him as a person who only cared about others.

“He spent every minute loving, caring, sharing, giving, helping,” said Dr. David Klein, clinic co-founder.
He’s a good instruction manual for all of us.”

Collado worked at Fawcett Memorial for 40 years, then spent four days a week volunteering at the clinic where he helped patients like Angle Roberts.

“I had two strokes in December and Dr. Collado saved my life,” he said.

Collado saved lives and ensured patients were also preserving their own.

“If a patient was not compliant or they didn’t make an appointment or they didn’t get their refills in time, he would basically chew them out and then kiss them on the forehead,” said Mike Moses, clinic coordinator. “He treated his patients like his kids.”

Collado is survived by his wife, five children and four grandchildren.
