BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. Two people were killed Sunday night in a crash near mile marker 117 of Interstate 75, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

A white sedan was lodged under a Penske rental truck around 7:50 p.m. The wreck is causing major southbound delays, Florida Department of Transportation cameras show.

Southbound traffic was diverted off the highway at Exit 123 and allowed back on at Exit 116, the FHP said. One southbound lane reopened between those exits shortly after 9 p.m.

The crash sounded like a bomb blast, nearby resident Yvonne Morgan said. Several people playing soccer at Marni Fields next to the interstate watched emergency crews tend to the scene.

No further information is immediately available.
