Suspect arrested, victim identified in Englewood shooting

ENGLEWOOD, Fla. A suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting Friday night on Huntington Avenue, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office said.

Mark Meredith, 53, is accused of shooting 42-year-old Michael Murphy on the 10000 block of Huntington Avenue after a heated confrontation, deputies said.

Murphy was taken to Blake Memorial Hospital in Bradenton with non-life threatening injuries, officials said.

Meredith is facing one count of second degree attempted murder, three counts of possession of a firearm after being convicted of a felony and one count of possession of ammunition after being convicted of a felony.

The investigation is ongoing.
