LCSO deputy shoots at suspect in Estero

ESTERO, Fla. A Lee County Sheriff’s deputy opened fire at a suspect who attempted to run him over Tuesday afternoon, Lee County Undersheriff Carmine Marceno said.

The incident took place at 4 p.m. near U.S. 41 and Coconut Road when a narcotics unit detective tried to arrest the suspect.

The suspect resisted arrest, got in his vehicle and tried to strike the detective, Marceno said. The detective then shot at the suspect.

It was not immediately clear if the suspect was hit by gunfire or if the detective was struck by the vehicle.

The detective was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

The suspect was later taken into custody at a home off Corkscrew Road. It’s unclear exactly where that home is, but several deputy cars were seen by Corkscrew Road and Burgundy Farms Road, several miles away from the original scene.
