Developer unveils plans for new Fort Myers Beach condos

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. Significant changes are coming to the island in the form of new high-rise condos.

London Bay Homes, a Naples-based development company, unveiled their plans Thursday night for Grand View at Bay Beach, an 11-story condominium tower.

The high-rise, which would include 58 units, will be built off Bay Beach Lane on the southern part of the island.

“I think it needs it, it really truly needs it,” said resident Kelly Aubry. “Fort Myers Beach needs a good face lift.”

This is the first major development for London Bay Homes after the economic downturn in 2008.

“This is the last chance to build something significant down here, so we wanted to do something that would really inspire great architecture and design,” said London Bay Homes sales director John Hillman.

While many see the benefits of the new condos, others are concerned about the added congestion in the area.

“I like the view of the ocean and all the palm trees,” said fellow resident Brian Dubbs. “I don’t want to see a bunch of high-rises.”

London Bay Homes is scheduled to begin construction later this year.
