Truck hits Times Square store on Fort Myers Beach

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. A driver was seriously hurt when he drove a truck into a Times Square souvenir store Monday evening.

The blue Dodge Durango hit the Teeki Hut at 1028 Fifth St. Two pedestrians sustained minor injuries.

The truck came over the Matanzas Pass Bridge and failed to negotiate a turn, a witness said. The driver hit the brakes only moments before impact, too late to avoid the collision, another witness said.

It toppled a beam and the guardrail around it.

The store sustained no interior damage.

Times Square is a popular tourist gathering place just feet from the shore.
